Alex Katz is an American artist known for his paintings and sculptures. He was born to a Jewish family and studied at The Cooper Union and The Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine. He lives in New York and during the summer he spends his time in Lincolnville, Maine. His paintings are mostly portraits or landscapes. His style of painting is known for it’s flatness, color and form. Inspired by large scale advertisements his paintings are often quite huge taking up entire walls of galleries. His wife, Ada Katz is often times the main subject of his paintings, in fact she has had over 250 paintings done of her by Alex Katz. Since 1951 Katz has had over 200 solo exhibitions and nearly 500 group exhibitions shown across the US and the world.
